Overview

Saghmosavank ("Monastery of Psalms", 13th century) sits dramatically at the edge of the deep Kasakh River gorge. The monastery grounds offer stunning views of the gorge and surrounding mountains.

Amberd Fortress (10th–13th century) is a well-preserved medieval complex on the slopes of Mount Aragats at ~2,300 m. It served as a royal residence and features defensive walls, towers, a church (Vagramasen, 11th century), and an ancient bathhouse.

The day ends at Lake Kari, a glacial lake at over 3,000 m surrounded by lava flows and rocky peaks — one of Armenia's most otherworldly landscapes.
