Overview
What do a royal prison, a biblical mountain, and a glass of wine have in common? This route.
Khor Virap is a place with the most impressive view of the biblical Mount Ararat. It is home to ancient royal prisons, which can still be visited today: a deep stone pit about 6 meters deep, where Gregory the Illuminator spent 13 years nearly 2,000 years ago. The complex includes two churches and a monastic courtyard and is considered one of Armenia’s spiritual symbols.
The route continues through the Ararat Valley — one of the oldest wine regions in the world. According to tradition, it was here that Noah planted the first vineyard after the flood.
We finish at Old Bridge Winery — a family winery founded in 1998. Here you will taste signature wines made from Areni and Voskehat grapes, as well as grape grappa (55–60°), accompanied by cheeses, olives, fresh bread, and water.
